PUERTO MORELOS
Location & getting there:
Located just South of Cancun, Puerto Morelos is a very ancient village that was inhabited by fishermen and chewing gum collectors. After the development of Cancun, Puerto Morelos became a target to stablish hotels taking advantage of the charm of this little village, the great coral reef because you do not need a boat to get there, a very excellent position for deep sea fishing and many, many cenotes (sinkholes).
PUERTO MORELOS 'S PLACES:
- Puerto Morelos itself
- North of Puerto Morelos (towards Cancun)
- South of Puerto Morelos (towards Playa del Carmen)
Ambience:
Relaxed.
Ideal for:
Families, adults, snorkelers, divers, fishers, people who want to relax. Important: here you will find many hotels exclusive for adults.
Not ideal for:
Party animals. Yes, maybe the party is great in your hotel, but in Puerto Morelos there are no nightclubs. You have to go to Cancun or Playa del Carmen.
Things to do:
- Just relax on the beach
- Fishing
- Sailing
- Snorkeling /diving in the ocean or in sinkholes (cenotes)
- Visiting Crococun (animals farm, a must)
- Visiting the National Park (a coral reef, excellent!)
- Visiting the Botanical Garden (a must)

Shopping:
There are some shops at the village, be aware of that, great shopping is either in Cancun or Playa del Carmen. For handcrafts do not worry, you will find on the road.
Food:
There are some restaurants and cafés which have Chinese, Mexican, Italian and American food. But the best is seafood,, specially lobster, because they fish it here.
Diving:
- Cenotes (sinkholes) there are many around.
- The Reef Nationa Park
Transportation:
There are buses that will take you from city to city, very cheap and will regular times. But better take the "colectivos" which are vans that run along the highway. Taxis can be found, just consider the price.
Beach conditions:
Beaches vary from very good (downtown) to just ok.
